Scholarships 

 

 

ADMISSIONS INFO ON STATE COLLEGES

 

University of Alabama                 21 minimum ACT (1000 SAT) with 3.0 OVERALL GPA, however all applications are considered on an individual basis.  Writing portion of ACT is required.   Algebra II is required.  1 yr Foreign Language is required.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 27 ACT and 3.5 GPA.  Scholarship deadline is December 15.  $40 application fee.

Alabama has a new scholarship program for seniors with a minimum 2.75 GPA and an ACT of 26 or BELOW  who demonstrate financial need. The application window is Jan.2 – March 7. Visit http://collegecountsalabama.com/ for more info.

 

 University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)      20 ACT (950 SAT) & 2.25 overall GPA.   17 core credits required with 4 yrs English, 3 yrs Social Science, 3 yrs Science (including 2 labs), 3 yrs math (Algebra I & higher), 1 yr foreign language, and 3 additional academic courses.  Priority deadline for admission is December 1. Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 20 ACT and 3.5 overall GPA.  Scholarship deadline is December 1.  December ACT score will be considered for scholarship if student is already admitted and requests UAB to pull their score.  Honors Academy deadline is Dec 1. $30 application fee.

 

 University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)        20 ACT and a 2.9 GPA are the minimum requirements for admissions. Engineering requires a minimum 21 composite on the ACT. Foreign Language is not required. A 25 on the ACT and 3.0 GPA are the minimum for MERIT BASED Scholarships (accept updated ACT scores through June 1). $30 application fee.

 

 Alabama A&M University          18 ACT and 2.0 overall GPA.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 23 ACT and 3.25 overall GPA.

 

 Alabama State University            2.0 GPA and 18 ACT.  A lower ACT would require a higher GPA.  Algebra II not required.  1 yr Foreign LanguageOR Computer is required.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 2.5 GPA and 20 ACT by February 15. $25 application fee.

 

 Auburn University                  Applicants are reviewed on an individual basis.  The average GPA for students admitted to the 2013 freshman class was a 3.8 and the average ACT score was 27.2.  Writing portion of ACT is required.   Minimums for automatic scholarships are 28 ACT (or comparable SAT) and 3.5 GPA.  Scholarship deadline is December 1.  A separate scholarship application is required after your admission to AU. $50 application fee.

 

 Auburn University at Montgomery               Minimum 18 ACT and 2.3 GPA for admission.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required.  ONLINE application is free. Minimum qualifications for scholarships are 20 ACT and 3.5 GPA.  Scholarship deadline is March 1. 

 

 Birmingham-Southern College       Average ACT is a 26.5 and average grade point average is 3.45.  Essay required, 2 recommendations, resume, transcript and application fee of $50.  Application fee waived if application is received by Nov. 15.  Scholarships are awarded with a holistic approach and evaluations begin January 1.  The last ACT test date for scholarship consideration is December.  

 

Faulkner University -       18 ACT, 2.5 GPA required for admission. Students who do not meet requirements may apply for conditional admission. Academic scholarships require a minimum 21 ACT. $25 application fee.

 

 Huntingdon College            20 ACT, 930 SAT and an academic 2.25 GPA.  Two math courses above Algebra I are strongly recommended.  Foreign Language not required, but recommended.  Minimum to qualify for scholarships is acceptance to the college.

 

 Jacksonville State University      High School diploma or GED certificate required with no specific GPA.  20 ACT-unconditional acceptance; 17-19 ACT-student must take LS 104 Learning Skills class for remediation.  SAT: 950 or above–unconditional acceptance; 830-940–conditional acceptance.  Algebra II not required for admission, but recommended.  Foreign Language not required.  Scholarship deadline is March 1 (February is last ACT considered w/scores being sent directly to JSU) and minimums to qualify are 22 ACT for automatic scholarships and 20 ACT and 2.5 GPA for Leadership Scholarships.  $35 application fee.

 

 Judson College        18 ACT (870 SAT) and 2.0 academic GPA.  If not meeting either of these requirements, you can apply to the Admissions Committee for possible Conditional Admission approval.  Algebra II not required, but recommended.  Foreign Language not required, but recommended. Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 20 ACT and 2.5 GPA.  ACT scores through June will be considered for scholarships. $35 application fee.

 

 Miles College        Unconditional admittance given with a high school diploma.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required.   Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 18 ACT and 3.0 GPA.

 

Talladega College     Minimum 2.0 GPA required…ACT required, but no minimum score. Must also submit essay and letter of recommendation. Academic scholarships begin at 3.0 GP A or 3.4 GPA/22 ACT. Must complete FAFSA. $25 application fee.

 

University of Mobile                21 ACT and 2.75 GPA for unconditional acceptance.  They consider lower scores for conditional acceptance---contact admissions counselor.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required.  Minimum scholarship requirements are 20 ACT and 2.75 GPA, and they consider ACT scores up until freshman year begins. $25 application fee.

 

 University of Montevallo           20 ACT (SAT 850), 2.5 overall GPA.  Algebra II not required for admission, but recommended.  Foreign Language not required for admission, but recommended.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 24 ACT and 3.0 GPA. $30 application fee.                                                                        

 

University of North Alabama        Unconditional admittance with an 18 ACT (870 SAT), GPA of “C” or 2.00 on academic core with a total of 13 core units.  Conditional admission with: 16 on ACT (770 on SAT), at least 11 core units (4 English, 2 Math, 2 Natural or Physical Science, 3 Social Studies), and GPA of 1.75 on academic core.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required.  Minimums to qualify for ACADEMIC scholarships are 25 ACT and 3.00 GPA.  Scholarship deadline is December 2. $25 application fee.                                                                            

 

Samford University               Application components include:  application, $40 application fee, one academic letter of recommendation, official ACT/SAT score, high school GPA, and personal essay.  The average range for the ACT is 23-29, SAT is 1080-1320, and GPA is 3.48-4.0.  Algebra II is required.  Foreign Language is recommended, but not required.  There is a separate scholarship application for leadership and presidential scholarship consideration. Revisions to the application and updated test scores will be accepted through the December 15th deadline for merit-based scholarship consideration. $40 application fee.                               

 

 University of South Alabama        20 ACT with a 2.0 GPA, or 19 ACT with a 2.5 GPA.  Algebra 1, II, and Geometry are required.  Foreign Language not required, but may be used as an advanced elective.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 23 ACT and 3.0 GPA.  Priority scholarship deadline is December 7, but funds are distributed until exhausted. $35 application fee.

 

 Spring Hill College        They work off rolling admissions and there is no application fee.  High School diploma, official transcript, letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor.  They do superscore the ACT/SAT.   Recommended 20 ACT or 930 SAT and 2.5 GPA.  Algebra II is required for admission.  Foreign Language is not required. Minimums to quality for scholarships are 20 ACT and 2.5 GPA. 

 

Stillman College     19 ACT, 2.5 GPA. Official transcript and 2 letters of recommendation must be submitted with application. FAFSA completion is required for scholarship consideration. $15 application fee.

 

 Troy University        Unconditional admittance given with a 20 ACT (950 SAT) and a 2.0 overall GPA.  Conditional admittance is given with a 17-19 ACT (830 SAT) and 2.5 GPA. Algebra II is not required for admission.  Foreign Language is not required for admission.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 22 ACT and 3.0 GPA.  The last ACT test date considered for scholarships is February. $30 application fee.

 

 Tuskegee University     21 ACT or 1000 SAT (Critical Reading and Math) and 3.0 overall GPA.  Algebra II is not required.  Foreign Language is not required. Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 23 ACT and 3.3 GPA. $25 application fee.

 

 University of West Alabama       Unconditional admittance given with a 19 ACT and a C average.  Conditional admittance given with a 17-18 ACT.  Algebra II is not required for admission.  Foreign Language is not required for admission.  Minimums to qualify for scholarships are 19 ACT and 2.0 GPA. $25 application fee.

 

Jefferson State Community College                High School diploma or GED certificate required.  No minimum GPA.  If ACT is not taken, a placement test will be administered.  Minimum to qualify for scholarships is 3.0 GPA. You will have to show an official ID to enroll (driver’s license, passport, state ID, or international visa or permanent resident card)

 

Lawson State Community College           .  HS Diploma or GED certificate required.  Minimum to qualify for scholarships is 3.0 GPA. You will have to show an official ID to enroll (driver’s license, passport, state ID, or international visa or permanent resident card)

 

Shelton State Community College            HS Diploma or GED certificate required.  Minimum to qualify for scholarships is 20 ACT and some are available with a 2.0 GPA and also 2.0 GPA for Technical.  Shelton recommends taking the ACT by December to ensure being considered for scholarships.
